The Sundew Festival

Every June, Daingean throws a party for a tiny bog plant. The Sundew Festival – formerly the Daingean Festival – was relaunched in 2026 (12–14 June) to celebrate place, people and creativity [Offaly Independent; Offaly Express].

What happens

  • A canal boat race
  • Sundew Sessions on the Barge
  • “Voices Along the Canal”
  • A community parade, a music trail around the pubs and busking
  • A dog show
  • Heritage and biodiversity walks – including “Find the Sundew” on the bog
  • An art exhibition in the courthouse

Why the sundew?

The sundew is a tiny carnivorous bog plant that traps insects on sticky red hairs. It thrives on the living bogs around Daingean – a small, bright symbol of a landscape coming back to life.
