Geashill
A planned estate village – Ireland’s tidiest in 2021.
Geashill grew around an Anglo-Norman castle and became the Digby family’s planned estate village, laid out around a triangular green; many buildings date from the 1860s–70s. Evictions in the 1850s led a local priest, Fr Patrick Dunne, to organise the emigration of 400 people to Australia. Geashill was named Ireland’s tidiest village in the 2021 Tidy Towns awards.
Why it matters: a model heritage village; Clonad Bog lies between Geashill and Daingean.
