Privacy policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

This policy explains how daingean.com collects and uses personal data. The data controller is Wandering Albatross Ltd (company no. 435216, registered in Ireland), trading as Bog House Media (registered business name no. 559730), registered office Gorteen, Daingean, Co. Offaly. You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@daingean.com.

What we collect and why

  • Contact form and emails: your name, email address, subject and message, so we can reply. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your enquiry, or steps you ask us to take before a contract.
  • Directory listings: if you list a business, we hold the business name, contact details, description, photos and the name and email of the person who submitted it. Business details you ask us to publish are shown publicly. Legal basis: contract (providing the listing) and legitimate interests.
  • Event bookings and orders: if you book a ticket or buy something through the site, we process your name, email, billing details and order history. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we never see or store your full card number. Legal basis: contract, and legal obligation for accounting records.
  • Accounts: if you create an account, your username, email and password (stored encrypted).
  • Newsletter: only if you opt in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. Legal basis: consent.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and pages visited, held in server logs and security tools to keep the site safe and working. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
  • Analytics: if enabled, anonymised statistics about how the site is used, only with your consent (see our Cookie policy).

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, under contract and only for that purpose: our web host, email delivery service, payment provider and, if enabled, analytics provider. Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area; where they do, transfers are protected by an EU adequacy decision or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Enquiries: up to 2 years after our last contact, then deleted.
  • Directory listings: while the listing is live, and up to 12 months after it is removed.
  • Orders and bookings: 6 years, as required by Irish tax law.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Server and security logs: normally no more than 90 days.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and the Data Protection Acts 1988–2018 you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect processing already carried out). To use any of these rights, email info@daingean.com. We will reply within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28, Ireland – www.dataprotection.ie.

This site is not aimed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
